Alex Moreno knocked in his third game-winning run of the season as South Florida scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Eckerd College 4-3 Wednesday. The rally began when Doug Joseph drew a one-out walk. Rodney Mayers beat out a grounder to the right of the mound before Kevin Dattola doubled into right-centerfield, scoring Joseph. Ken Demske scored Mayers with a ground ball to second base, setting up Moreno's heroics.
Eckerd took a 2-1 lead in the fifth when Troy Grubb singled to left to score Bill Norris. But Winston Wheeler pitched 3 innings of relief to keep the Tritons at bay until the ninth. Then, with the bases loaded and one out, Norris laid down a squeeze bunt and pitcher Bob Undorf's throw drew catcher Rick Phaff off the plate.
