Sen. Bob Graham sent his colleagues Georgia pecans for Christmas. The lawmakers were thankful, even if they weren't sure what they were. Graham, a Florida Democrat, said the nuts grown on a family farm near Albany, Ga., were sent in boxes clearly stamped Georgia pecans.
Minority Leader Alan Simpson of Wyoming wrote, "Thank you for the chestnuts. It was very kind of you to do that, Bob."
Sen. Slade Gorton, R-Wash., offered Graham his "sincere thanks for the wonderful box of almonds."
And Sen. Warren Rudman, R-N.H., wrote: "Thanks ever so much for sending the walnuts. They arrived in time for our office Christmas party, so I shared them with the staff."
Ohio Sen. John Glenn was straight on the nuts but confused the state on his thank-you card:
"Thank you very much for sending your holiday greetings and for sending the sampling of Wisconsin products, too."
