Game notes: After an early and difficult bout with injuries, Cleveland is steadily creeping into contention for a playoff berth. Now that center Brad Daugherty and power forward Larry Nance have returned to the lineup, the Cavaliers are battling Atlanta for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers beat Atlanta last week, and Wednesday night they whipped Portland by 12 points. With the 7-foot-1 Daugherty and the 6-10 Nance, Cleveland is yet another team that will present matchup problems for the smallish Magic. Starting center Sidney Green goes 6-9 and power forward Terry Catledge is 6-8. The Magic has lost four straight games, and has been beaten by an average of 20 points. Defense, as always, is a problem. The Magic permitted an average of 130.5 points in the four losses. Depth will also be a concern for the Magic, which will be without starters Otis Smith and Sam Vincent.
Next game: The Magic visits the Washington Bullets on Saturday night in Landover, Md.
