Cardinals shut out Blue Jays

Dennis Wiseman and Dave Richardson combined on a five-hit shutout and leftfielder Mike Fiore drove in three runs to lead the St. Petersburg Cardinals to a 5-0 victory over the host Dunedin Blue Jays Saturday night. St. Petersburg (17-15) opened the scoring in the third inning. Catcher Tim Redman singled with two outs, and second baseman Jeff Shireman walked. Fiore followed with an RBI double to leftfield, and two consecutive wild pitches scored two more runs for a 3-0 lead.

The Cardinals added another in the fifth, when Fiore singled in Redman. They closed out the scoring in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Fiore.

St. Petersburg and Dunedin travel to Whispering Pines Park, in Citrus County, today for a 1:30 p.m. game. The two teams combined for 10 home runs at the Inverness park last year _ seven by the Cardinals, who won 12-6.
