Michael Shahnasarian, executive director of Career Consultants of America, has been selected as outstanding alumnus of the year from business and industry by the college of education at Florida State University. Shahnasarian was recognized for his contributions in management consulting and career development to corporations across North America.
Lang Engineering of Florida Inc. recently promoted Charles Mowat and Steven Byers to project managers. Mowat has been with the company since 1988. Byers has been with the company since June 1987. Both men have worked as foremen, supervisors and project superintendents.
Cynthia L. Piritz, the corporate trainer/nutritionist for Body Basics' National Franchised Weight Management Centers, has been appointed national training director for the company's new training center in St. Petersburg. Prior to joining Body Basics, Piritz developed and implemented behavior modification classes and was trainer of employees for FORMU 3 International Eight Loss Centers.
Robert S. Davis III has been elected Division I trustee and member of the American Osteopathic Hospital Association board of trustees. He will serve as representative for the eastern United States. Davis is the executive director of Metropolitan General Hospital in Pinellas Park.
Emil P. Miller has been named administrator of University General Hospital, Seminole. Miller was administrator for Hillside Hospital in Pulaski, Tenn., and administrator for Fannin Regional Hospital/Fannin County Nursing Home in Blue Ridge, Ga.
Gregory G. Roe was recently recognized by the Pasco Builders Association for an outstanding contribution to the Florida Home Builders. Roe is vice president of Roe Insurance Inc., New Port Richey.
James C. Easton recently joined Barton Malow Co.'s Sarasota regional office as director of marketing. Easton has been involved in business development of Florida public-sector construction projects since 1984. From 1973 to 1984, Easton held positions in local and federal government, including city manager, Winter Haven; assistant county administrator, Seminole County; executive assistant to the mayor of Knoxville, Tenn.; and legislative assistant to a member of Congress.
John C. Bierley recently received the Tampa Bay Annual International Business person award from the Tampa Bay International Trade Council. It was for recognition of his achievements and support of the development of international business. Bierley is a trustee of the University of Florida Law School and chairman of the International Law Designation Advisory Committee to the Florida Bar. A past chairman of the Florida Council of International Development and president of the Tampa World Trade Council, he has lectured on international matters in Florida, Europe and Latin America.
Robert W. Palmiero has been appointed president of Southern Apparel Corp. and its subsidiaries Southern Apparel Marketing and Empire Mercantile. Prior to the promotion, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer. Palmiero has been with the company since 1976 and will continue to report to William W. Short Jr., chairman of the board and chief executive officer.
Paula Scally has been named customer service supervisor for Vision Cable of Pinellas Inc. Prior to joining Vision Cable, Scally served as district office manager for MultiVision Cable TV in Springfield, Mo. Scally's responsibilities will include direct supervision of Vision Cable's customer service department.
Taylor Nipper has been named pay-per-view manager for Vision Cable of Pinellas Inc. Prior to joining Vision Cable, Nipper served as pay-per-view manager for Prestige Cable.
Janine Ferrante has been named communications administrator of GTE Data Services in Temple Terrace. Ferrante is editor of the company's bimonthly employee magazine and is also responsible for the publication of a weekly employee bulletin and special employee communications. Before joining GTE Data Services, Ferrante was an account executive with Fahlgren Martin Benito, Tampa.
Craig M. Cameron, manager of accounting for TECO Energy Inc., is one of four accounting professionals nationwide selected for the Financial Accounting Standards Board's Fellowship Program. He will spend a two-year period as an industry fellow at the FASB's offices in Norwalk, Conn.
