Countryside graduate gets $1,500 scholarship

Steven Stoeffler, a 1986 graduate of Countryside High School, has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship to continue his studies at the University of Florida. Stoeffler, who received his bachelor's degree from the university in May, recently completed his second internship at Coopers and Lybrand, an accounting firm in Tampa, and is studying for his master's degree.

Stoeffler is the son of William and Sharon Stoeffler of Clearwater.

UCF student gets Ott scholarship

Ronald K. Roessler, the son of Susan and Ken Olds of Clearwater, has been awarded a $750 scholarship from the Richard F. Ott Scholarship Foundation.

Roessler, a 1989 graduate of Clearwater High School, is a sophomore majoring in biology/chemistry in the premed program at the University of Central Florida.

The renewable scholarship is based on academic achievement and leadership. This is the second time Roessler has received the award, increased this year from $500.

Countryside alumnus gets degree

Chester G. Elias III, son of Chester and Ann Elias of Clearwater, has earned a bachelor of arts degree from Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Ill.

While at Lake Forest, Elias, a biology major, was elected to Beta Beta Beta, the biology honor society. He also was a member of the Campus Entertainment Committee and the College Republicans and was named to the dean's list for the 1989-90 school year.

Also, as outstanding member of the Phi Pi Epsilon fraternity, he was given the Philip Speidel Memorial Award in his senior year.

Elias is a graduate of Countryside High School.

Eagle Scout builds picnic tables

As his Eagle Scout project, Jeff Skifstad of Boy Scout Troop 434 in Palm Harbor built picnic tables, including one for the handicapped, at the Lutheran Church of the Palms in Palm Harbor.

Skifstad, a 1989 graduate of St. Paul's School in Clearwater, also arranged to have shrubbery planted in the church picnic area.

Jeff is a student at the University of Tampa. His parents are Charlotte and Skip Skifstad of Palm Harbor.

Palm Harbor native on dean's list

Nancy W. Putnam, a junior majoring in psychology, has been named to the dean's list at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

Named to the Chi Psi psychology honor society, Ms. Putnam teaches aerobics and is an officer in the Newman Club, the Catholic organization on campus.

She is the daughter of J. Stephen and Pam Putnam of Palm Harbor and a 1988 graduate of Clearwater Central Catholic High School.

Society picks Belleair student

Bob Sleight, son of Mark and Judy Marshall of Belleair and a graduate of Pinellas Park High School, has been inducted into the Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi honor society at Flagler College.

Sleight is a junior at Flagler, majoring in accounting and business administration with a minor in English.

Military news

Cpl. Charles J. Bissonette, son of Charles Bissonette Sr. of Seminole, has been awarded the Good Conduct Medal.

Bissonette, a 1984 graduate of Seminole High School, is serving with Station Operations and Maintenance Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, Santa Ana, Calif.

Edward L. White, son of Margaret and Edward White of Clearwater, has completed training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

White, a 1990 graduate of Clearwater High School, was in the ROTC program for four years.

Seaman Apprentice David Palacios, a 1988 graduate of Countryside High School, has completed training at the Coast Guard Training Center, Cape May, N.J.

Palacios' wife, Christina, is the daughter of Steve and Sophie Kapetaneaus of Safety Harbor.
