Two high school football games this week, Clearwater at Riverview and Lakewood at Gibbs, are starting at different times than previously scheduled. School officials say the changes are because of the encephalitis scare.
The Clearwater-Riverview game has been moved to Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Lakewood-Gibbs game is still Friday but will start a half-hour earlier, at 7 p.m.
Clearwater's game is for first place in Class 5A, District 9. Both teams are 3-0 in 5A-9. The Tornadoes have played Saturday-morning games before, including this year's Pinellas Park game, but not in Sarasota.
"We have to be up and ready to go," said Clearwater coach Tom Bostic, who figures his team will drive out of Clearwater at 7 a.m. "I think that puts us at a little bit of a disadvantage."
