Host of haunts for Halloween

Haunted houses, costume parties, ghouls, ghosts, jack-o-lanterns _ all will be making their annual appearances during the next few days as Halloween nears. Several activities are planned for HernandoCounty, beginning today and running through Wednesday, which is Halloween.

American Legion Post 208 of Spring Hill is distributing Halloween safety coloring books to third-graders to help remind youngsters to be cautious.

The book stresses these tips:

Children should have adult supervision.

Costumes should be flame-resistant.

Use makeup instead of a mask.

Wear light-colored clothing or reflective tape.

Carry a flashlight.

Do not run or walk in the street and cross only at the corner.

Accept only wrapped or sealed treats and trick-or-treat only in your own neighborhood.

Parents should make sure their children know their address and phone number in case they get separated.
