Police are investigating the rape of an 88-year-old woman at her home on the west side of the city early Friday. By Friday afternoon, no one had been arrested in connection with the 2:15 a.m. incident, Belleair Bluffs Police Chief Bill Mangum said.
A man believed to be in his early 30s broke into the woman's home and entered through the kitchen, Mangum said.
The woman was awakened by footsteps before the covers were pulled off her and she was attacked, Mangum said. No weapons were used.
The suspect ran away.
The woman was treated for bruises at Morton Plant Hospital and released, Mangum said.
Police are asking that anyone who might have seen anything unusual in the area call 581-4345.
