Question: I understand that the president of the United States will send congratulations to couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Would you please tell me where to write? My parents will be celebrating theirs soon. _ Donna Kramzar, Chatham, Ill. Answer: The White House Greeting Office will send greetings to couples who are celebrating their 50th (or more) wedding anniversary or a birthday greeting to citizens 80 years old or older.
Send the request at least six weeks in advance and include the complete name, address, event and date. Check spelling carefully and, for women, include whether it should be addressed to Miss, Mrs. or Ms. The address is: The Greeting Office, the White House, Washington, D.C. 20500.

Question: While drying an expensive king-size bedspread, made of 100 percent cotton, I added two dryer sheets. Oily-looking stains and circles appeared and they will not come out.
Is there anything I can do to remove the stains? _ Estelle Henderson, Wylie, Texas
Answer: Try removing the stains by wetting and rubbing them with a bar of soap and rinsing well with water or completely rewash the spread. Let it air dry and repeat if the stains remain.
Apparently the bedspread was too large for the dryer. For future reference, these stains are caused by having too many or too few clothes in the dryer, or the dryer was set on too hot a setting. _ Heloise

Question: I know this is not a pleasant subject, but I have tried everything to remove the perspiration stains on my husband's washable shirts and nothing works. Help! _ Toni H., Chicago, Ill.
Answer: Sometimes the stains can be treated with a heavy dose of prewash spray. Next, wash in the hottest water safe for the fabric.
If the stains don't budge, soak the area in vinegar for 30 minutes, then wash using detergent with enzymes or oxygen (non-chlorine) bleach.
If the stains remain, they are probably permanent, sorry to say. _ Heloise
