Thanksgiving is a time for traditions, family and food. And we'd like to hear from people in Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties who have a special Thanksgiving recipe that's been a family tradition. We're also looking for side dishes or dessert recipes. And ifspecial stories accompany the recipe, we'd like to hear about those. Please send your recipes and stories to: Suzanne Hayes, St. Petersburg Times, 301 E Meridian Ave., Suite 214, Dade City 33525. Deadline for submitting items is Nov. 5.Deputies to set up check
for drunken drivers
HOLIDAY _ Pasco County sheriff's deputies will set up a drunken driving checkpoint on County Road 595, their first in nearly three years. The checkpoint, at the 2100 block of CR 595, will be from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday. About 20 sheriff's officers, including members of the Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) will check drivers randomly for alcohol impairment, insurance and vehicle registration. Deputies also will check cars for faulty equipment. A Sheriff's Office K-9 dog unit also will be on hand to check for drugs, officials said. CR 595 was selected for the checkpoint because almost half of the drunken driving arrests made by the STEP unit were along that road, spokesman Jon Powers said. The road also lends itself logistically to hold the random stops, Powers said. The Sheriff's Office is running the random checks again because "it is something (we) like to do periodically," Powers said. The last check took place in April 1988.
