Rick Grajirena of Tampa, in fourth place after Saturday's three races, came back Sunday to finish first overall in the Tampa Yacht and Country Club Star Invitational Regatta. Steady, shifting winds out of the north kept the races moving quickly. A dozen boats raced windward/leeward and Olympic triangle courses on upper Tampa Bay.
Stars are an Olympic-class sailboat designed for two sailors. Competitors from across the U.S. came to Tampa for the event, many with ambitions for the Olympics.
"It was a great regatta," said Guy deBoer of Miami, who finished third and is campaigning for the Barcelona Games in 1992. "Lots of wind shifts made it like lake sailing."
Grajirena's crew member, Craig Coltharp of Annapolis, Md., hopes to be back in his own boat for the PolRoget Star Regatta in two weeks. The two met at the Olympic trials in 1968.
