TAMPA _ Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies Sunday arrested two men for three robberies in south Hillsborough. The men, armed with pistols, robbed a man and a woman Saturday evening in the parking lot of the Budgetel Hotel on U.S. 301 south of Interstate 4, police said. About an hour later, the men stole the purses of two women near the west entrance of the Country Corner Bar at U.S. 41 and Causeway Boulevard. A few hours later, the men, accompanied by a juvenile, robbed a third victim at gunpoint in the 7500 block of Causeway, police said. After the third robbery, a plainclothes deputy saw the robbers' white car at Hartford Street and U.S. 41, and arrested the men, deputies said. Michael Westphal, 19, of 5410 E Broadway in Tampa and Lynn Durden, 18, of 2310 S 49th St. have been charged with three counts each of armed robbery. TAMPA _ A Valrico man died early Sunday after his 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier slammed into a chain-link fence and utility pole in northeast Tampa. Delano McKinley, 24, of 301 Heridge Hillway in Valrico was driving east on E Broadway Avenue about 1:50 a.m. when he hit a concrete island in the middle of the street, police said. McKinley was driving about 100 mph, police said. He rammed into the fence at Broadway and 67th Street and then hit a utility pole on the south side of the street. Results of a drug and alcohol test were not available Sunday.
