Chamber installs officers, presents awards

Joseph "Sonny" Thornton of Ross Risk Insurance was installed as president of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce at an installation dinner Oct. 5 at the Dunedin Country Club. Tyler Wening of Fortune Savings Bank is president-elect; Mark Roman of the Roman and Roman law firm, first vice president; Milt Arnold of Arlenes Uniforms, first vice president; Marjorie Martin of Prudential Realty, first vice president; and David Tottle of Hanson and Tottle certified public accountants, treasurer.

Board members installed for three-year terms were Ken Carson of the Toronto Blue Jays, Leslie Creech of Florida Power, Dan Mann of Sun Bank of Tampa Bay, Kay Hartnett of Gulf Bank of Dunedin and Jerry Bowman of Dunedin Refrigeration.

Retiring president Alex Ayscue presented the President's Award to Dan Massaro of Massaro and Associates and named Cecil Englebert of Lucky Roberts Refrigeration as Outstanding Governor.

Allens Florist, whose owner is Allen Arnold, was named to the Business Hall of Fame and F. L. "Gus" Cooper was named Delightful Mr. Dunedin.

Clearwater women's

club installs officers

Trudy Yates has been installed as president of the Clearwater Community Women's Club.

June Shultz is first vice president; Sue Berfield, vice president, ways and means; Conni Galbraith, vice president, projects; Carol Nielsen, recording secretary; Marian Justice, correspondence secretary; Gail Poirier, treasurer; and Sandy Kutchins, member-at-large.

The Clearwater Community Women's Club makes donations each year to various community projects including Meals-On-Wheels, the Community Pride Child Care Center of Clearwater, Religious Community Services and the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen.

The club meets the third Tuesday of each month. Its next fund-raiser is a road rally planned for Jan. 12.

Couples celebrate

wedding anniversaries

Melvin and Florence Mielke of Dunedin, formerly of Ann Arbor, Mich., were married Oct. 28, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa.

The Mielkes have a daughter and two granddaughters, all of Palm Harbor.

Before retiring, he was in the restaurant business for 39 years, and she worked for the University of Michigan. They came to this area in 1980.

They are members of the Light of Christ Church in Clearwater.

Marie and Wesley Henry, lifelong residents of Crystal Beach, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with relatives in Arkansas and family and friends in Clearwater.

The Henrys were married Oct. 29, 1940. He is retired from Florida Power Corp., and she is retired from Publix Supermarkets. Both are members of the Ozona Baptist Church.

They have three children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
