St. Petersburg Police Chief Ernest "Curt" Curtsinger figured something was wrong when, on a recent business trip to Germany, a man with no car, a bulge in his back pocket and a contradictory story offered to drive him and other American police officers to Berlin's Brandenburg Gate. Suspecting the bulge was a gun, Curtsinger twisted the man's arm behind his back and searched him.
The bulge was a .38-caliber handgun, Curtsinger said.
"He didn't have a clue as to who we were," Curtsinger said. "Bad choice of people, huh?"
Curtsinger said he thought the man might have been a con artist. The man was arrested by Berlin police.
