Student commended in program

Springstead High School recently announced that Brian Klinzing was named a Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corp., which conducts the program, will be presented to Klinzing. About 35,000 students in the nation are honored with this award.Terrific kids of month are named

Brooksville Elementary School recently named its "Terrific Kid of The Month" for September in each grade:

Kindergarteners Kristine Bailey, Bobby Camerlin, Kelly McQuown, Andrew Murphy, Celeste Pease and Christopher Smith.

First-graders Donny Clark, Hercules Hicks, Shannon McQuown and Veronique Palmer.

Second-graders Andrew Alwood, Jaime Barboza, Treva Carter, Hericka Hicks, Courtney Murray, Jason Snyder and Sabrina Williams.

Third-graders Mindy Auvil, Tiffany Guntor, Heather Korbus, Jacob Merritt, Coree Rimby, Rachel Rogers and Vernon Shearer.

Fourth-graders Antiquan Byrd, Tammy Hopkins, Shannon McNair, Noel Rivera, James Smith, Denzil Southerland, Nicki Teele and Lashanitra Williams.

Fifth-graders Shawn Baum, Brandi Bradford, James Cattee, Leila Hampton, Andrea Hurst, Jeremy Ingram, Eric Kincade, Brianne Murphy and Nola Rasper.

Regional DECA awards are won

DECA students from Hernando High School recently attended a regional leadership development conference in Daytona Beach. Several students competed and won in individual categories.

School is collecting register tapes

Deltona Elementary School in Spring Hill is collecting register tapes from Publix supermarkets to earn Apple computer equipment and software, through the "Apples for the Students" Partnership for Education Program.

Anyone who wants to donate register tapes can bring them to the school or call 683-6326.

Cookies to be sent to soldiers

The Home Economics Related Occupations (HERO) Chapter of Hernando High School recently announced its third annual "Cookies From Home" project.

As a service to the community and the family of Hernando High School graduates, the club members will send five dozen chocolate chip cookies to any former Hernando High student serving in the armed services, away from home during the holidays.

If you would like to have cookies sent, the club needs the person's name, mailing address, year of graduation, name of person requesting the cookies, relationship to the recipient and a phone number by Friday.

Mail the information to Tangela Badger, HERO Chapter, Hernando High School, 200 E Kelly Street, Brooksville 34601. A letter from a friend or relative can be included in the box of cookies. For information, call Sue Oxendorf at 796-9571, Ext. 40.
