Watch over newborn manatee continues

Volunteers are continuing a daylight watch on the manatee calf born a week and a half ago at the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park, but park manager Tom Linley said the newborn is doing well. "We're really pleased," he said. The calf has continued to nurse regularly from her mother, Amanda, and Rosie, the other pregnant manatee in the isolation enclosure.

Park officials tentatively have settled on a name for the calf, but Linley said that name wouldn't be announced until later this week.
