As a non-partisan write-in candidate in the District 48 race for the Florida House, animal rights activist Eric Tarnley of Zephyrhills won't have his name on the ballot. Still, the perennial candidate is the only challenger trying to keep Rep. John Long, a Land O'Lakes Democrat, from gaining a third term.
Tarnley has lost bids for office at the local, state and federal levels _ several times as a write-in candidate. Earlier this year, he ran for the Zephyrhills City Council and finished sixth of six candidates.
Long, a longtime Pasco school administrator who was elected to the Florida House in 1986, will have his name on the ballot.
Voters who want to cast a ballot for Tarnley will have to write his name and the office on a line on the ballot card.
