Here's some events you can participate in or attend this weekend. Figure-eights will be the feature race tonight at the Citrus County Speedway, a quarter-mile paved oval track three miles south of Inverness on U.S. 41. Local racers also will compete in four regular classes as points races heat up for the season.
Wayne Reutimann of Zephyrhills leads a close race in the Late Models with 3,499 points. Inverness's Jeff Williams moved into second place after last week with 3,499, while Brooksville's Dave Scarborough is a close third at 3,234.
In Pure Stocks, Keven Fults of Inverness leads by only 15 points, 1,169 to 1,154 over Brooksville's Victor Stanley, while brother Dwayne Fults is third at 741.
In the Sportsman's class, formerly street stocks, Brooksville's Buddy Kessler will be going for his seventh consecutive win. Kessler's 1,778 points puts him well ahead of Herb Neumann Jr. of Inverness with 953 and Crystal River's Fred Tuski with 859.
Darryl Succhans of Inverness leads the Mini Stocks competition with 1,237 points to 680 for Hernando's Lenny Brown.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m.; racing starts at 7:30 p.m.
INVERNESS _ Basketball players from Citrus and Hernando high schools will participate in a 10-mile walkathon today to raise money for a trip to Ireland this summer. The walk starts at 5 p.m. at Whispering Pines Park in Inverness.
The six athletes _ current Citrus High players Scott Toumbleston and Nathan Smith, Citrus graduate Luke Simmons and Hernando High players Bo Brooks, Chris Taylor and Marion Jones _ were selected to play in the Limerick Treaty 300 tournament in Ireland in August as part of the USA Florida All-Stars.
Each player must raise nearly $2,000 to make the trip. Pledges are still being taken.
