College: University of Florida; wants to go into business, possibly the stock market.

Extracurricular activities: National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta

Awards: Florida Academic Scholar, Superintendent Scholar

Quote: "I'm not too worried about the economy because I'll be going to college during a recession and graduating in a bull market."

Co-valedictorian: Heather Purdin

Age: 18

College: Duke University or University of Florida; wants to be a physical therapist.

Extracurricular activities: Track team, Mu Alpha Theta

Awards: Florida Academic Scholar, 1990 Homecoming Queen

Quote: "I would have to say I learned the most from running. It taught me discipline, encouragement and teamwork."

Salutatorian: Kerensa Butler

Age: 18

College: Florida State University or the University of Florida; wants to work for a major aeronautics firm and be an astronaut.

Age: 18

College: Wabash College in Indiana; wants to be a lawyer

Extracurricular activities: Lettered in baseball, student government president, Key Club, working with underprivileged children

Awards: $60,000 Four-year Lilly scholarship

Quote: "My parents instilled in me that I should go to college. My teachers along the way gave that meaning . . . Every teacher I've had inspired me to some extent."

Age: 17

College: University of Florida; plans to major in liberal arts, then attend Harvard Law School.

Extracurricular activities: Managing editor of school newspaper, The Pirate's Log, senior class vice president

Awards: Two state scholarships, Florida Academic Scholar

Valedictorian: Rachel Proffer

Age: 17

College: Pensacola Christian College; plans to major in history, no career plans yet.

Extracurricular activities: Basketball, volleyball.

Quote: "It's sort of scary to think of the recession the United States is going into. There's no job market for graduating seniors out there (in the real world) I hear. But I think I'll do great."
