R.A. Neitzel's three RBI backed the four-hit pitching of Elliott Gray as the Clearwater Phillies beat the St. Petersburg Cardinals 7-1 Sunday for the second consecutive time. But they also suffered a loss when Ron Jones was sent up to triple-A Scranton and Bob Gaddy was promoted to double-A Reading.
Gray (6-2) shut down the Cardinals after the first inning, striking out six and walking three over eight innings.
Consecutive singles in the third inning by Sam Taylor, Tom Nuneviller, Pat Brady and Leroy Ventress scored two runs and set the table for a two-run single by Neitzel.
Sarasota 9, Dunedin 7
DUNEDIN _ Sarasota rallied for four runs in the ninth inning off Dunedin reliever Darren Kizziah and nipped the Blue Jays 9-7 Sunday night.
In the ninth, Kizziah walked leadoff batter Kevin Castleberry. Catcher Angel Martinez dropped Rob Lukachyk's foul popup for an error and he followed with an infield single. Kizziah advanced both runners with a wild pitch. Scott Cepicky's single drove home Castleberry with the tying run, and John Hairston's single scored Cepicky with the go-ahead run.
