A vandal or vandals broke into the Shady Hills Elementary School during the weekend, discharged fire extinguishers and threw soda around, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. The school, at 18000 Shady Hills Road, was entered through a cafeteria door that had been pried open sometime between 11 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, a sheriff's report said. Student projects were ripped off the walls of classrooms, and food in the teachers' lounge was scattered or eaten, the report stated. The cost of repair and cleanup was estimated at $2,000. Sheriff's officers learned of the vandalism from a nearby resident who noticed an open door during a walk.
