At $1,000, certainly a book to behold

The Sistine Chapel, a 740-page, 600-photograph, two-volume book to be published by Alfred Knopf in November, will retail for $1,000. It's the highest price ever for a Knopf release.

The photographs are by Takashi Okamura, who is Japanese and specializes in art of the Vatican.

About 5,000 copies of the books will be printed in North America and England, says the New York Times. The company hopes to sell about 10 percent of those through bookstores, with the rest going to libraries and directly to private connoisseurs.
