Lightning fires strike Spring Hill

Lightning struck a Spring Hill Fire and Rescue District station during a rainstorm Tuesday afternoon, knocking out the station's computer system and some of its dispatch capability. Training and safety officer Dennis Andrews said the lightning hit Station 2 at 3445 Bob Hartung Court, then jumped over to the antenna or power line. "We lost our mainframe ,and part of our computer is still smoldering," Andrews said. He said the district's 911 emergency response system was not affected. Firefighters had no problem putting out the fire. Andrews, who was on the way to another call when the lightning struck, described it as a large ball of fire bouncing between the buildings. "It was the first time I'd been that close, and that was closer than I wanted to be," he said. Andrews said the district responded to four or five other lightning fires Tuesday afternoon, none of which were serious.Workin' in the rain
