School Board members will consider drawing new district boundaries at a June 12 meeting, school and county officials said Tuesday. The County Commission and the School Board are required to adjust district lines every decade to reflect population changes revealed by the U.S. Census.
Historically, the School Board has adopted County Commission boundaries. But this time the County Commission adopted district boundaries that, if accepted by the School Board, would place School Board member Lee Benjamin in the same district as board member Corinne Freeman.
The School Board is considering slightly different district boundaries, said county Supervisor of Elections Dorothy Ruggles. The County Commission and School Board lines "will probably never match again," she said.
