Now that summer has arrived the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wants to recommend some tips for pets. Pets should not be left outside during severe weather conditions without adequate protection.
Leaving a pet in a parked car can be fatal and is illegal.
Hundreds of pets are injured or killed by falling from the back of pickups.
Jogging with a pet at mid-day may cause heat exhaustion.
Beach sand, cement walkways and gravel are hot. Pets are safer at home.
Pesticides are poisonous. Keep pets off freshly sprayed lawns.
Increase treatment for fleas during summer months.
Provide pets with proper identification. It may be their only ticket home.
When planning a vacation also plan for how you will deal with the pet.
Remember the basic pet needs: fresh water, proper shelter, adequate food and lots of love.
