Bucs re-sign former FSU standout Shelton Thompson

Shelton Thompson, a defensive lineman from Florida State University and Lakeland High School, was one of two free agents signed Wednesday by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thompson, a 6-foot-2, 275-pounder, signed with the Bucs as a free agent in April but was waived in preseason. He had 137 tackles and 14{ sacks in his career at Florida State.

The other player signed was defensive back Kim Phillips, a 5-foot-10, 190-pounder from North Texas who was a third-round draft pick by New Orleans in 1989. He played five games as a rookie.

Last season, Phillips was waived by the Saints during preseason and signed with the Buffalo Bills in September. He played in just one game for the Bills before being waived in November.
