A 20-year-old St. Petersburg man was charged with first-degree murder early Thursday in the shooting of a man during a robbery in a known drug area, police said. Tyrone Lamont Butler of 2505 13th St. S was in the Pinellas County Jail without bail Thursday. Butler, who had been wanted in the shooting, was arrested late Wednesday night after an officer saw him in a car and police pulled it over.
Police said 31-year-old Kenneth D. Marks of 3921 Wahoo Drive SE had gone to the 2400 block of 12th Street S early on April 29 when he became the victim of an attempted robbery.
A man armed with a handgun approached Marks. When Marks tried to drive away, he was shot once in the face, police said.
Marks' car ran into a tree. Police arrived at the scene to investigate an apparent accident and found the bullet wound.
