A motorcyclist speeding away from an officer rammed into a cruiser Wednesday. The officer was trying to block the rider from driving through schoolchildren crossing the street, police said. Frank Anthony Frasula, 21, of 3437 74th St. N suffered minor cuts and was treated and released from Bayfront Medical Center after the collision, said Wendell Creager, St. Petersburg police spokesman.
Creager said Officer Ron Adams saw Frasula and another man exchange something in the 1700 block of Russell Street S about 2:10 p.m. He said Frasula saw Adams and sped off on a motorcycle, running several red lights at speeds exceeding 75 mph.
The two traveled up 16th Street N, Creager said. Approaching Ninth Avenue N, Adams noticed the school-crossing cones and children in the crosswalk, he said. Adams then pulled in front of Frasula to force him away from the children and into a parking lot at the corner of 16th Street N and Ninth Avenue, Creager said.
Adams was not injured. Frasula was charged with possession of cocaine and cited for not having a valid driver's license, fleeing and eluding and reckless driving. Frasula posted bail Thursday.
