Recession-proof goods are worn, but not worn out

Signs of the times: In New York, Bloomingdale's has added a new men's cologne to its lineup of pricey scents. It's called Recession, and is selling for a mere $15.95 (about half the price of most colognes on the counter).

And at Los Angeles-area Sears stores, there's a new interest in budget-saving retread tires.

According to Richard Gust, president of Lakin General's tire division, which supplies tires to Sears, the Achievor brand of retreaded radials looks and performs like new tires, but at a much lower price.
