Keepers of the trees

Peter Reuter, left, and Mike Whalen on Friday protest the cutting of trees to build a nursing and rehabilitation center at Morton Plant Hospital in Belleair. Environmentalists are to hold a vigil and a candle lighting tonight from 7 to 9. Ninety-five of the 236 oak trees must go before construction can begin. About 15 trees were cut before work was halted when protesters began picketing, but cutting could begin again as soon as Monday, said Paul Gramblim, hospital spokesman.
