Despite a tearful plea from his pregnant wife, a 20-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison for selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school. Wallace Leonard Williams of Orange Park was found guilty May 14 of selling crack cocaine to undercover narcotics officers near Grove Park Elementary School. The arrest came about three months after Williams was released from prison on three cocaine convictions and grand theft.
Circuit Judge William A. Wilkes Jr. ruled Thursday that Williams was a habitual offender and sentenced him to life in prison.
Assistant Public Defender Sue Lewis told the court that Williams was not "a big-time dealer."
But the judge replied, "I don't know if he's big-time, but he sure is a regular drug dealer."
