The story sounded probable enough: A fast-food restaurant manager is held up at gunpoint and the store's safe is looted. But Tampa police investigators found no evidence at the Taco Bell at 2721 E Busch Blvd. to support the story told by shift manager Armindo Gonzalez, 21. Gonzalez told investigators two armed men had come up behind him when he was opening the store just after 7 a.m. Saturday. He claimed they forced him into the back office, told him to open the safe and then stole an undetermined amount of cash. Before they left, Gonzalez said they tied him up in the store's cooler. Under questioning, Gonzalez' story collapsed and he was charged with grand theft and filing a false police report. Before he was booked into Hillsborough County Jail, Gonzalez implicated two other men. Gonzalez is being held on $1,500 bail.
