A robbery attempt was thwarted Friday afternoon, when a shop owner wrestled with a robber wielding a knife. As Marlena Connors stood behind the counter at Tattoos and Exotix Lingerie at 7206 U.S. 19, a man walked up to the counter. The man, Rocky Alan Wales, 38, allegedly pulled out a large buck knife and demanded money from Connors, a New Port Richey police report stated. Connors' husband, Jimmy, walked into the room and saw Wales with the knife. He and Wales fought over the knife, and Wales eventually ran out of the store. Wales jumped into a tan car and drove away on U.S. 19, the report stated. Wales' car was stopped moments later at River Gulf Drive and U.S. 19 by a Port Richey police officer. The Connors later identified Wales, the report stated. Wales was being held in the Central Pasco Detention Center in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $6,000 bail.
