John Escobar's two-run homer backed the one-hit pitching of Mike Sullivan as the division-leading Clearwater Phillies posted a 4-1 Florida State League victory over the Winter Haven Red Sox on Sunday. It was the Phillies' ninth win in their last 10 games.
In other FSL action, St. Petersburg edged Sarasota 3-2 and Charlotte blanked Dunedin 6-0.
Sullivan (4-1) fanned five and gave up his lone run in the sixth inning when he issued three of his four walks. Charles Hurst hurled no-hit ball for two innings and Chris Limbach picked up his second save of the year with a perfect ninth.
The Phillies have won 19 of their last 23 games to move ahead of Sarasota. They will play the third game of the series at Winter Haven tonight, returning to Clearwater Tuesday to complete the four-game series.
