5 teams too hot to lose

The Little League Tournament of Champions for Districts 6 and 13 got into full swing this weekend, with three baseball and two softball teams from Bloomingdale combining for a 12-0 record. In the District 13 Senior League (ages 13-15) baseball, Bloomingdale and Land O' Lakes are the only undefeated teams, both at 2-0. Bloomingdale knocked off North Brandon 3-2 and Southeast 8-7, while Land O' Lakes defeated Lutz 5-4 and Belmont Heights 8-1.

Both Bloomingdale (3-0) and Land O' Lakes (2-0) advanced in the District 13 Junior League (ages 13-15) baseball tournament. In three close games, Bloomingdale edged North Brandon 3-2, East Bay 3-2, and Southeast 8-7. Land O'Lakes downed East Point 17-7, and Temple Terrace 8-6.

In District 13 Little League (ages 9-12) baseball, Sulphur Springs has crushed both of its opponents, Northeast 13-0 and Lutz 11-2.

Against Northeast, Sulphur Spring's David Torres tossed a no-hitter, striking out 15 of the 17 batters that he faced.

In other action, Belmont Heights' Steve Bowers struck out 11 Temple Terrace batters in his team's 3-1 victory.

Four teams are undefeated in that division: Belmont Heights is 1-0, while Sulphur Springs, East Point, and Bloomingdale are all 2-0.

In District 13 Senior League softball (ages 13-15), Bloomingdale (2-0) breezed past East Bay 17-0 and North Brandon 12-0. Temple Terrace (2-0) also cruised, trouncing North Seminole and East Point by a combined score of 29-2.

In District 13 Little League softball (ages 9-12), Bloomingdale (3-0) overpowered Progress Village 10-1, Southeast 22-1, and East Bay 20-3. East Point pummeled Land O' Lakes 31-5.

Palma Ceia, Interbay, and the Yellow Jackets are undefeated in the District 6 Senior League baseball tournament.

In District 6 Junior League baseball, both Palma Ceia (1-0) and Northside (2-0) have advanced to winner's bracket final.

In the District 6 Little League baseball tournaments, Citrus Park, Bayshore, Northside, and the Yellow Jackets are all undefeated and will resume action in winner's bracket on tonight.

In the District 6 Senior League softball tournaments, Citrus Park (2-0) rocked the Yellow Jackets 29-8 and Palma Ceia 26-16. Tampa Bay and Skyway both join Citrus Park as the only undefeated teams.

In District 6 softball, Tampa Bay's defense only permitted three runs combined against Citrus Park and Interbay in its two wins over the weekend. Skyway (1-0) defeated the Yellow Jackets 16-4, enabling them to join Tampa Bay in the winner's bracket final.
