Fifty-nine teams remained alive going into Tuesday night's Little League Tournament of Champions action, with the field expected to be trimmed to 45. Temple Terrace's Wes Trombley and Billy Johnson both homered, but it was not enough as Lutz pounded Temple Terrace 18-6 on Monday in the District 13 Senior League's loser's bracket.
The loss ended the season for Temple Terrace (1-2) in the double-elimination tournament. Lutz (2-1) advances to play Belmont Heights, whose only loss came against undefeated Land O' Lakes.
Mike Korte tossed a four-hit shutout as South Brandon (2-1) knocked off North Brandon 3-0 Monday in other Senior League baseball action. South Brandon faces Southeast (2-1) Tuesday in the loser's bracket.
Bloomingdale (2-0) and Land O' Lakes (2-0) will both try to remain undefeated, as they battle at 7 p.m. tonight at Temple Terrace. The winner advances to the District 13 finals.
In District 13 softball, Sulphur Springs shortstop Melissa Bowe recorded an unassisted triple play in the sixth inning against North Seminole in a losing cause, as North Seminole edged Sulphur Springs 13-12.
In other softball action, it will be a battle of the undefeated as Bloomingdale (3-0) and East Point (2-0) play at 7 p.m. tonight at the Southeast Tampa field. The winner will earn a berth to the District 13 finals.
Interbay (2-0) can end Northwest's season and advance to the finals with a win Tuesday night in District 6 Senior League baseball.
Also in Senior League action, the winner of Tuesday's Yellow Jackets (1-0)-Palma Ceia (2-0) game will advance to semifinals and the loser will face Northside (2-1) for the remaining semifinal spot. Northside has rebounded from a first-game loss, winning their next games by defeating Skyway 11-2 and West Tampa 8-3.
There is still plenty action left in the District 6 Junior League baseball tournament. Both Skyway (1-1) and Northwest (0-1) face elimination as they square off against each other Tuesday.
