John Escobar's single through short drove in Sam Taylor with the deciding run as the Clearwater Phillies won their 12th consecutive home game, 4-3 over the St. Petersburg Cardinals Wednesday night. Taylor opened the bottom of the eighth with a single, was sacrificed to second base by Tom Nuneviller, went to third on a balk, and came home on Escobar's hot grounder.
"I hit the ball hard up the middle and was lucky the ball stayed down," said Escobar.
"Our success in this stretch run has been the starting lineup playing good defense and hitting the ball well," said manager Lee Elia, whose club has won 12 of its last 13. "Everybody has contributed on different occasions and the pitching has been real good during this stretch."
