Spring Hill student wins surgery stipend

Brian E. Klinzing of Spring Hill recently was awarded the 1991 Coastal Jaw Surgery Scholarship. Klinzing is researching a career as a radiologist. Klinzing, who is a student at Springstead High School, has completed 43 credit hours of college.Hospital volunteers

Five Hernando County high school students each have been awarded $1,000 scholarships by the HCA Oak Hill Hospital Volunteers The winners are Jocelyn Bonduc, Brian Klinzing, Randy Rouse, Tiffany Zutzius of Springstead High School; and Shelley Grissom of Hernando High School. Scholarships, which were awarded to students interested in pursuing careers in the healthcare field, were given based on academic performance, community involvement and financial need. Funds for the scholarships are raised throughout the year from the volunteer-run hospital gift shop, dues and a variety of fund-raising activities.

Scott Kelczewski, a Powell Middle School student, was given the "Student of the Year" award and the "American Legion School Medal" award by the American Legion Post 208 of Spring Hill at the recent awards event at the school.

"Worlds Fair' winners

Wider Horizons School recently had its second annual "Worlds Fair." All students, grades one through eight, participated and researched topics with social significance. Students were judged on their research, creativity, knowledge and presentation. Students winning awards for their efforts: ecology, Ailish Ferguson, Alex Hermel, Chris Roberts, and Uriah Fix; history, Joshua Bracken, Joel Crandall, Holly Liptak, Jim Grant and Hap Crandall; wars, David Housel, Coraggio Maglio and Al Costanza; countries, Desmond Higgins, Joshua Whitmore, Fionnuala Ferguson, Michael Lynch, Ted Martin and Banan Mahmalji; continents, Jared Rowden and Fawn Hudzinski; states, Lauren Sganga and Matthew Smith; environment, Gabe Hermel and Joshua Leventhal; and earth study, Amy Jenkins.
