Worker charged with grand theft

A 27-year-old New Port Richey woman was arrested Tuesday and charged with grand theft. Evelyn Mary Kent, of 10942 Barrett St., allegedly misappropriated more than $600 from the Jasmine Medical Center while working there as a billing clerk, a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report stated.

The medical center, at 10833 U.S. 19 in Port Richey, is auditing its accounts to determine its exact loss, the report says.

Kent was released on her own recognizance Tuesday from the West Pasco Detention Center.

Sheriff's Office finds

15 marijuana plants

SAN ANTONIO _ Fifteen marijuana plants were found Wednesday morning by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

These were the first plants found in the annual marijuana eradication program, which opened Tuesday.

The marijuana was sighted near Jessamine Road and County Road 41 from a helicopter, Sheriff's Office spokesman Jon Powers said.

Using the state's standard estimate of $1,000 a plant, sheriff's officials said the plants are worth a total of $15,000. Seventeen one-pint, plastic pots were found near the plants, which appeared to have been planted recently.
