Southwest Florida Water Management District will apply the herbicide Diquat to Lake Panasoffkee and associated canals Monday through Thursday. Approximately 80 acres will be treated. Restrictions include no swimming for 24 hours, no irrigation of crops or drinking of lake water for 14 days. Fishing is not restricted. Club makes donation to Salvation Army
The Brooksville Rotary Club recently donated $500 to the Brooksville Salvation Army. The presentation was made to Capt. Ed Strong by Bob Barnett, president of the Rotary Club of Brooksville. The Rotary Club doubled its 1991 contribution in response to the Salvation Army's report that demand for its services had increased dramatically because of the recession.
MADD to honor poster contest winners
MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), Hernando County Chapter, will present awards at 2:30 p.m. today to the winners of the MADD annual "Don't Drink and Drive" poster contest. The winners are: from Girl Scout Junior Troop 681, Nichole Strong, first place, and Cindy Jarvis, second place; from Brownie Troop 1059, Dana Johnson, first place, and Amanda Berg, second place. The Troop Leader is Sharron Jarvis. Sun Bank Ridge Manor Branch contributed the prizes. First place winners were awarded a $50 bond; second place, a T-shirt and an umbrella.
