The body of a 52-year-old Sarasota man was found floating Thursday morning in Tampa Bay just south of the Gandy Bridge. Fifteen-year-old S. Keith Meadows found the body about 8 a.m. while fishing off the bridge, said Marianne Pasha, a Pinellas County sheriff's spokeswoman.
The body was pulled from the bay about a quarter-mile south of the bridge.
Pasha said detectives think the man had been on the bridge.
The man's name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
He was wearing a red T-shirt and light-blue shorts. Detectives found $2.21 and a denture plate but no identification in the man's pocket.
Meadows noticed the body near the west end of the bridge and flagged down a Florida Highway Patrol trooper.
Television and radio crews flying over the bay also saw the body, Pasha said.
An officer with the marine patrol of the St. Petersburg police and a sheriff's deputy pulled the body from the water.
Detectives found injuries on the body, but Pasha would not describe them. She said the body had been in the water about an hour.
Deputies were awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
