A funeral will be held today for Gerald Gunter, senior member of Florida's Public Service Commission, who died after suffering a heart attack. Gunter, 56, died Wednesday at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Medical Center.
Services are set for 2 p.m. at Celebration Baptist Church in Tallahassee. Gunter will be buried at Rock Bluff Cemetery at Bristol in Liberty County, Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Homes said Thursday.
Gunter was taken to the hospital from his office about 1 p.m. Wednesday after he complained of chest pains and died at 8:15 p.m.
"I was very distressed to hear that. I am very sorry," Gov. Lawton Chiles said when reached during a trip to Washington, D.C.
Flags were lowered to half-staff at the state Capitol in Gunter's memory.
He had served since Jan. 2, 1979, on the commission that regulates Florida's electric, telephone, water and other utilities.
He had been reappointed Feb. 4 to a four-year term.
