Police are investigating a shootout in Ybor City Wednesday night that left three men wounded. Just before 10 p.m., a 16-year-old said he was held up at gunpoint by two men, according to police records.

When he refused to give up his property, the men shot him in the buttocks, according to records. He returned fire and hit both men, one in the chest and the other in the buttocks, police said.

The two men drove to the Ponce de Leon public housing complex where the car crashed into the outside wall of one of the apartments.

Police said they had not confirmed the 16-year-old's story Thursday and they planned to interview the men involved again.

"We're not sure what it was," said police spokesman Steve Cole. "There was some crack cocaine found in the car. We're trying to determine if it was drug-related."

Police said that none of the men suffered life-threatening injuries; all were taken to Tampa General Hospital.

Conditions reports on the men were not available late Thursday. No arrests have been made.
