Air Force Senior Airman Candace Welch, daughter of Ray and Rita Buchan of St. Petersburg, was recently awarded the Air Force's Good Conduct Medal and was promoted to her present rank. She is stationed at Aulkenburg, England, and is a 1987 graduate of Gibbs High School.
Army Spec. James E. Grubins, son of Barbara Grubins and the late Edward Grubins of St. Petersburg, was recently promoted to his present rank while stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. Grubins is a 1989 graduate of St. Petersburg High School.
Air Force Maj. Mark E. Kennedy, son of Drusilla R. Kennedy of Gulfport, recently was promoted to his present rank and also was awarded the Air Force's highest medal, the Air Medal, for successfully landing his completely powerless jet shortly after takeoff Nov. 14. Kennedy deserves the award, according to Lt. Col. Stephen R. Douglass, 72nd FS commander: "His superb airmanship, prompt action and coolness under pressure allowed him to safely bring down two people and a valuable TAC aircraft." Kennedy is a 1973 graduate of Bishop Barry High School.
Army Reserve Pvt. Angela R. Davis, daughter of Margaret H. Bronson and Anthony R. Davis, both of St. Petersburg, has graduated from the cargo specialist course at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Va.
Air National Guard Tech. Sgt. John W. Dohm III, son of John W. Dohm of Moorhead, Minn., and Janette T. Onstott of Madeira Beach, has graduated from an Air Force major command non-commissioned officer academy where he received advanced military leadership and management training. Dohm is an electric power production technician in Fargo, N.D.
Marine Lance Cpl. Paul J. Ermatinger, son of Linda C. Ermatinger of St. Petersburg, recently deployed with 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Pendleton, Calif., for six months to the Western Pacific Ocean. He is a 1988 graduate of Northeast High School.
Marine Lance Cpl. John R. Hall, son of John C. and Sherri A. Hall of St. Petersburg; Marine Pfc. Derrick D. Johnson, son of Carlos and Lily A. Webb of St. Petersburg; and Marine Lance Cpl. Ernest E. Thomas, son of Judith A. Ware and Ernest E. Thomas, both of St. Petersburg, recently deployed with 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., for six months to the Mediterranean. Thomas is a 1989 graduate of Lakewood High School.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Paul E. Moore, son of Shields H. and Susan G. Moore of St. Petersburg, is deployed aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Mahan, based in Charleston, S.C., and is midway through a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean and Red seas. Moore is a 1981 graduate of Boca Ciega High School.
