Children to hop for disabled residents

Published Oct. 10, 2005

A disability awareness program, "The Hop-n-ing," will include children from day care centers and pre-schools through Feb. 21.

Teachers will familiarize children with disabilities and various causes of disabilities during the first part of the project. This will help children eliminate prejudices against and fears of people with disabilities.

The second part of the project will include a special event to raise funds for Hernando, Citrus and East Pasco county residents with disabilities served by Easter Seals.

The children will hop for a three-minute period and collect pledges as donations to Easter Seals. The money will be used to provide wheelchairs, hearing aids, therapy and recreational rehabilitative programs at Camp Challenge. Participating children will receive an award certificate.

The center that raises the largest average amount per child will receive a pre-school party compliments of Winn Dixie Supermarkets and a personal visit from the Easter Seals Hop-n-ing Bunny.
