Man is injured by backhoe

A 25-year-old man was injured Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by a backhoe and fell between trash bins. The man was flown to Bayfront Medical Center, said Capt. Dennis Keup of the Magnolia Valley Volunteer Fire Department. The man apparently was standing on a trash bin at the Waste Aid garbage transfer station on Galen Wilson Boulevard. The backhoe operator didn't see him and hit him with the back end of the machine, Keup said. The man's name and condition weren't available late Tuesday.

Man accused of raping girl, 13

ZEPHYRHILLS _ A 41-year-old Zephyrhills man was arrested Monday on a charge of raping a 13-year-old girl. About midnight Saturday, Jerry Kent Burns performed several sexual acts on the girl and forced her to perform an act on him, according to an arrest affidavit. Burns denied having sex with the girl. He was being held Tuesday at the jail in Dade City in lieu of $30,000 bail.

No leads yet in girl's beating

SHADY HILLS _ More than three weeks after 17-year-old Carolyn Murray was found severely beaten near her Shady Hills home, there has been no arrest or strong lead in the case, according to the Pasco Sheriff's Office. On Tuesday, the Land O'Lakes High School junior remained in Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Hospital officials declined to talk about the girl's condition.

Correction

Tickets for the public luncheon and card party sponsored by the Ladies of the United Italian American Civic Club at noon today are $4 a person. A different price was listed Tuesday.
