Official has tumor surgery

City Council President Vince Scheer underwent surgery Monday at Citrus Memorial Hospital to have a tumor removed from his colon, said June Scheer, his wife. Doctors expect to perform more tests on Scheer, 79, to determine if the cancer has spread, Mrs. Scheer said. He has been hospitalized since Feb. 5.

Montgomery Street opens

INVERNESS _ Montgomery Street, which has been closed to through traffic from State Road 44 to Highlands Boulevard, has been reopened. The street was widened as part of the ongoing project that includes the widening of much of Highlands. City Manager Bruce Banning said Highlands from Montgomery to Citrus Avenue remains closed. Work is expected to be completed by the end of March.
