Lecanto boys in

2A-8 soccer final

TAMPA _ Lecanto advanced to the Class 2A, District 8 boys soccer final with a 1-0 victory over Tampa Catholic on Tuesday.

Berkeley Prep played Crystal River in a late game.

Jeff Dufresne scored the Panthers' goal on an unassisted shot 27:47 into the first half after dribbling down the left side from midfield.

"This is the first time a Citrus County soccer team has beaten a team from Tampa and we won't mind the nearly two-hour bus ride back down here Friday," said Kevin Towne, Lecanto's coach. "Tampa Catholic is well coached and we knew it would be a tough match, but our players stepped up and played well enough to win."

Tampa Catholic had the most scoring chances, taking 20 shots. But Lecanto goalie Mark Mohrmann frustrated the Crusaders' efforts.
