East Lake teacher suspended

Published Oct. 10, 2005

An East Lake High School teacher has been suspended without pay for three days for refusing to evacuate his students during a fire alarm, even though he saw smoke coming from a hall trash can. The School Board suspended Clarence M. Hall Jr. at its meeting Wednesday. Instead of leaving the building during the alarm, Hall closed the door to his classroom and kept the students there. He has been a Pinellas teacher since 1980. He was reprimanded in 1986 for using poor judgment in remarks to students. Hall will lose about $190 a day while suspended.
